Review: Bokksu Satsumarché Sakura Sakura Green Tea

This seasonally limited tea is only available for the spring. Ryokucha green tea from Kagoshima Prefecture is scented with Japanese sakura leaves for a floral fragrance over the fresh flavor of the tea. Tea leaves have the capacity to absorb scents, so by layering tea leaves with aromatic fresh sakura leaves, the gentle floral aroma of Japanese spring is absorbed into the tea leaves themselves.

Bokksu

I wasn’t sure what to expect with this green tea, and even after sipping it, I’m left with mixed feelings. On the one hand, the green tea flavor is strong but not overwhelming or bitter. On the other, there is a strange sort of light aftertaste to the tea that I can only assume is a result of the sakura leaves. I can’t say I’m a fan. Still, I can imagine this tea pairing well with pastries on a cool spring day. If you’re already a fan of sakura-flavored teas and treats, then I’d recommend picking this up, otherwise, I may advise skipping this one.
